It was brilliant to catch up with my old boss Chris Hunton (from our days on the Global Land Rover business at WPP) at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for a “Quick Conversation 🎤 in Cannes 🌴”.

I know Cannes was a few months back, but people were so generous with their time and their responses are timeless....so I still have more to share:)

Chris Hunton shared a story that perfectly sums up his "Key 🔑 to Creativity": relentlessness.

🔍 Back when he was an account director at Lowe's, Chris was working on the iconic SMIRNOFF LTD business and the "Through the Bottle" campaign. He had a bold idea that the client loved but refused to run. Most people would have left it there. Chris went back. And back again. And again.

Finally, his Managing Director at Lowe Tim Lindsay, who is now Chairman at D&AD said:

“You’ve done your job, Chris. Now let me help you.”

Together they went back to the SMIRNOFF LTD Marketing Director, who agreed to run it on 10 test sites.

🏆 🦁 The result? It worked. It ran nationally. And it won two Gold Lions at Cannes. 🦁 🏆

👉 The lesson: sometimes, to make the best creative ideas you believe in happen, you just have to keep going. Relentlessly.
